The 4K restoration release of Aranyer Din Ratri (Days and Nights in the Forest), the iconic 1970 film by legendary filmmaker Satyajit Ray, was commemorated at PVR ICON, DLF Promenade Mall, Vasant Kunj, New Delhi, with a distinguished gathering of cultural leaders, cinema professionals, and thinkers.

Yogi Priyavrata Animesh Ji, Founder of the OOJ Foundation, attended the screening and panel discussion, marking the occasion with a special tribute to legendary actress Sharmila Tagore Ji, whose performance in the film remains one of the most celebrated in Indian cinema. As a gesture of honour and respect, Yogi Ji presented her with the OOJ Foundation Element Series book, “The Fire.”

The evening was also graced by Shri Arijit Dutta, Managing Director, Priya Cinema Entertainment Private Limited, whose efforts have been instrumental in preserving and reintroducing cinematic heritage to contemporary audiences.

The moment symbolized a meaningful convergence of cinema and philosophy. The OOJ philosophy, rooted in the ancient Indic understanding of the five elements, views art as a transformative force capable of awakening consciousness. Aranyer Din Ratri, with its exploration of human psychology, freedom, and the dissolving of social identities in the presence of nature, mirrors this elemental journey—particularly the element of Fire, which represents inner transformation and truth.

By gifting “The Fire,” Yogi Priyavrata Animesh Ji acknowledged Sharmila Tagore Ji’s fearless artistic legacy and her enduring role in illuminating complex emotional landscapes through cinema.

The restoration of Aranyer Din Ratri stands as an act of cultural preservation, reaffirming the importance of safeguarding timeless works that continue to inspire reflection and awareness. The evening served as a reminder that cinema, when aligned with deeper philosophical inquiry, becomes a powerful medium for cultural continuity and inner awakening.
